Historical

sites

We have the unique opportunity to build relationships within the community through the legacy of the Mormon Battalion, U.S. Army of the West.  The Mormon Battalion made great contributions to the history of the United States and California.  Their story is one of faith, service, and sacrifice.  We try to emulate these same values within our community.

As the Mormon Battalion Historic Site is a member of the Old Town San Diego community, our Council has been actively involved in helping the Director of the Mormon Battalion Historic Site build relationships with the State Park and the Old Town Chamber of Commerce.

Mormon Battalion

Annually, on the last Saturday in January, the San Diego County LDS Stakes present  the Mormon Battalion Commemoration at the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.  This is a free community event which tells the story of the Mormon Battalion in a fun-filled family day of interactive living history activities.

OLD TOWN

SAN DIEGO FOUNDATION

We support the Old Town San Diego Foundation’s 4th Grade Living History Field Trips.  The Mormon Battalion is also part of the great military history of San Diego and the first military unit garrisoned in San Diego.  Each year we honor veterans from our community during the Mormon Battalion Flag Day Celebration in June.
